Make sure you go to the launch of Issue 6 of Threaded Magazine on November 11th at 6pm at Magnation (the old Magazzino) on Ponsonby Road, Auckland. The first 50 through the door get a goodie bag full of freebies (like the Design Speaks Louder Book).
We are stoked to be sponsors of Issue 6. Prizes to be won on the night too. It’ a good night to meet fellow budding designers and industry people and those who just dig a mag launch and free red bull’s.
nzonscreen.com launched recently. I checked it out this morning and was impressed. Basically it’s a place to watch nz produced television and film.
They say… “NZ On Screen is unlocking the treasure chest, providing access to the wealth of television, film, music video and new media produced in NZ, along with knowledgeable background information.”
I really like the site, video streamed (no buffering), but this was 7:30am on a zooped up business plan from Telecom, so if your an evening surfer (5pm-10pm) your evening will be buffered no doubt.
I watched a short film about West Coast mining. Pretty cool……. and free! Thanks to NZ on Air funding. Good luck not getting busted at work watching nz’s unlocked treasure chest of tv and film. Think I will watch “Flare - A Ski Trip” next. Produced in 1977. Check out those rainbow shin ski pants….
Details of the official book launch are as follows:
Pecha Kucha Night, vol. 2
Wintec Hub (City Campus), Monday, November 3rd
Doors open at 7:30pm, presentations begins at 8:20pm, Entry is $7.00
To all those people waiting for new billboard bags, they arrived on Friday so get in quick. Some have sold already, they are all one-off and only $29. We will be uploading more next week so keep an eye out in the new category.
Shop with us this week and we will give you a free Christmas card by Kinoo. Part of the Rare Birds Collection (a real private collection of kiwi’s), this “Chrissy” card is part of 6 kiwi greeting cards. Kinoo cards are printed on 100% post consumer recycled stock.
Since my skater is growing cobwebs, this has inspired me to get back on four wheels again. Think I might sand her down and stencil it up. It might/will look real bad. Now there’s a skate art event name… “Sand her down stencil it up” brought to you by boom, cheapskates, resene etc etc…. I can hear the radio ad now.
Ooid (sounds like “fluid”) from Dunedin has just released a new range of organic cotton bags. There’s 5 new bags from various designers around the world. And like always they are made from 100% unbleached organic cotton.
Use them for whatever you like… things for the beach, grocery shopping, books for uni or as a fashion accessory.
If your short of activities during the long weekend why not download the pimp my paper cardbot from spicers paper’s latest promo and get creative. Short on ideas? Drink and draw…
Have a super weekend everyone and thanks for reading our blog and supporting NZ Design
Sideroom.com magazine is an underground mix of nz and intl. art & design and all sorts of alley way antics. Its now available in our nz design store. Last night Made From New Zealand re-launched with a new site and a cool shin-dig at the 42 Below space in Britomart, Auckland. A good time had by all, pretty hard not too when 42 below is flowing freely in every possible cocktail imaginable (I actually had beer all night).
To cut to the chase, check out the site and start networking with other cool nz businesses like endemicworld.com. List your own and get some international attention.
Paradigm, the designers behind the Salvage Billboard Bags (currently sold out) have been recognised for their commitment to sustainable practise. They won the Northern Region Trailblazer Award (Small and Medium Business) at the 2008 Sustainable Business Awards and a commendation at the National Awards.
The judges commented that ‘they operate in a pioneering nature and have a long standing commitment to public interest and more recently to the adoption of sustainable design’. Lucky for us all there’s more Salvage Billboard Bags coming soon. If you want one, email us, and we’ll let you know as soon as they arrive.
When Good Magazine launched we got pretty excited. For sure everyone had their doubts but this magazine and website has proven to be top quality. If you haven’t got the latest issue grab one because they feature some very cool green fashion including the Ataahua Trilby Hats made in New Zealand from used hessian coffee sacks.
