Graffiti match up

Across the road from our building is a construction site. This morning the workers were starting their day and matched their new wall deco (aka graffiti) quite nicely.

BP Logo’s

The BP logo has had its share of defacing over the past few months. There is even a competition being run by logomyway.com with over 1000 entries. Below is a poster that’s been popping up round Auckland recently. Comment below with your rating out of 10 or post a link to your favourite new BP logo.

ASKEW & spray detail

ASKEW is one of New Zealand’s street art legends. He’s been doing it longer than you. We blogged about the Soho Hole Pool Party and his presentation at Design Assembly last year. The video below is not only a slick production but a detailed insight into street art and the different ways he uses a can.

It’s part of an episode of videos he has put together for his new project Urban Development.

Hand drawn type from India

It’s impressive whenever you see someone hand draw a common typeface like Helvetica in accurate proportions. It’s stunning to see the hand drawn typefaces like those on the streets of India. Dig the flare and the “no rules apply” style. Not to mention the brightness, they make some of our billboards look so dull. The word “juice” makes you thirsty.

Found Via Random Specific

We are fans of Meena Kadri, her blog Random Specific,  her impressive photography and story telling of what typography, graphic design and signage is like in India. We were lucky enough to hear her speak at Design Assembly last year.

Get on your bike cart full of paint brushes and find a dusty wall.

Wellington for a weekend

We couldn’t get enough of Wellington during a weekend trip there recently. A couple of pics from a drizzly day poosling around Cuba street.

Thanks Wellington and all the crew who we hung out with down there. If your going there anytime soon, you must go to:

Bettys to soak up the vjing, chill in the wine cellar and spot a movie celeb or two (and have a drink of course)
Swonderful for some boutique fashion and accessories (the home of papercup)
Scopa for the best pizza in the country (emersons organic pilsner on tap too)
Fidels for a kick arse brunch (second to last picture)

Street Art from Europe

I’ve been traveling, below is a selection of street art I saw.

These are from Wuerzburg, Germany. Its a student town of about 140,000. Completely rebuilt after the war, it’s in Frankonian wine country, I worked on a vineyard nearby when I was living here in 2004 (pre endemicworld.com times). The street art seems to be stencil free and all brush and can.
