I Love Ugly opens boutique

Tucked away in a small group of shops down Mt Eden Road is I Love Ugly’s new boutique store Broken Puppet. V who runs the brand used to stock us with his tees as a part time gig while he ran the logistics at AS Colour. What began as a thing on the side is now a boutique store that stocks his brand I Love Ugly, and a couple of special ones from far away places like the Netherlands. Check it out, get a limited edition tee and get weird eyes looking at the black & white checkered wall behind the counter. Nice one V & Co.

Typography, Poetry & Video

A great video poem about our odd overuse of “like” and “?” etc. Have never been fans of poems but this is something else.

Bombs and Ice Creams

Since last Friday we have watched this 500 times. We wish it was a full length feature. It had only 2500 views last night, now it has almost 17,000. It should be at the Oscars today… actually its too cool for that.

Chill’n like a Villian

A different kind of street art

A public bench outside the ferry building in Devonport Auckland has been hit with a cushion and sheet for extra comfort. Someone should up this until we have leather couches in every NZ city. Gold trim anyone? Apologies for the shitty image, we only had a battling old Niokia on us at the time.

Hand drawn type from India

It’s impressive whenever you see someone hand draw a common typeface like Helvetica in accurate proportions. It’s stunning to see the hand drawn typefaces like those on the streets of India. Dig the flare and the “no rules apply” style. Not to mention the brightness, they make some of our billboards look so dull. The word “juice” makes you thirsty.

Found Via Random Specific

We are fans of Meena Kadri, her blog Random Specific,  her impressive photography and story telling of what typography, graphic design and signage is like in India. We were lucky enough to hear her speak at Design Assembly last year.

Get on your bike cart full of paint brushes and find a dusty wall.

Cut Collective Collab at Splore 2010

Cut Collective and architectural graduate Jasper Middleton have combined forces to create a dramatic installation built and displayed for the Splore Festival at Tapapakanga Regional Park south of Auckland. Lucky buggers who get to ‘get on down’ for the next three days. The futuristic 2050 dress up theme night sounds crazy.

Couple of lucky staff will be there. Party on people. Nice work Cut Collective and Jasper… Street Art meets architecture… mean.
