People in Your Neighbourhood

People in Your Neighbourhood, a British Council New Zealand project, involved aspiring artists and performers from New Zealand’s ethnic communities, working with the best of contemporary UK talent, to create an album, and perform live in Auckland and WOMAD Taranaki.

ISBIM director Joshua Jang a.k.a. Daemang did his solo track in this album with his international prodigy lyrical skillsss. The album features the Urban Soul Orchestra (UK). The album highlights the increasing multi-ethnicity of New Zealand, and acts as a vehicle to show the potential for intercultural collaboration in the arts.

Josh has provided 10 to giveaway. (Nice one bro). To win one buy an ISBIM t-shirt before Friday 29th May. Also follow us on twitter as we will be giving some away over there too!

Balloon Tank

Title – ” german panther, 2007, Luftballon/Luft/Kleber (balloon/air/glou), 960 x370 x 300cm”

Found it via Simian Audio… an extra smooth tumblr blog. Originally it is from a German Art Gallery which is worth a poozle as its full of some great sculpture. The photos show the stages of the tank as the balloons begin to deflate.

It then reminded me to let you all know your favourite song “99 red balloons” is actually a German song called “99 Luftballons”. Luftballons in English is “air balloon”, but for some reason it got translated to ‘red balloons’ during a English re-recording. It was a protest song during the cold-war era.

That’s todays music/baloon/sculpture lesson, have a nice Tuesday.

Mychillybin Photographer of the month

For those of you who don’t know, mychillybin is New Zealand’s best royalty-free stock image library. Each month they pick a “photographer of the month”.  This month it is Simone Quentin de Manson

The following was published originally by mychillibin

Based in Christchurch, Simone is an exceptional photographer and freelance designer!

1. What I can’t live without in my camera bag is… My Camera! Often if I am going out and am limited on space all that comes with me is my camera with its 50mm fixed lens, in a plastic bag with a jersey wrapped around it. Sometimes my camera bag is just too big.

2. My idea of a perfect Sunday is… Start with a nice coffee and pancakes, followed by a mountain bike ride, come home do some garden and then collapse on the sofa with my knitting. I’m very lucky, this is what most of my Sundays are like.

3. The best thing about New Zealand is… Everything; the closeness of the great outdoors, the people, the light, the food.. yeah pretty happy really.

4. What makes me laugh out loud is… My cats, my partner and Douglas Adams.

5. In five years I hope to be… Still doing what I am doing but with more creating and photography. Oh and a really good mountain biker… cause I’m not.. yet.
