As a New Zealander by birth and as a monarchy loyalist I feel that if anything should be changed on the New Zealand flag they should replace the four stars with something that symbolizes New Zealand like maybe a white fern. But do not remove the Union Jack just to appease the multicultural activists, because that is our heritage.

True Guy, most people seem to talk about black as our national colour. Black should definitely be part of it.

i reckon: just change the background colour of our current flag to black. that way you keep the historic aspects and add an element of something that most kiwis associate with today
